Charry

An Icebergs shoot is an in-between place. No crew. No client. No buzz. Just quiet. Sometimes an unobtrusive soundtrack. A mechanical shutter keeps time. Minimal guidance. These are the building blocks. It isn’t a set and it isn’t everyday life.
We hold the space long enough for discomfort to come and go. Then, maybe, the inner landscape feels safe enough to surface, and we catch a glimpse of what makes humans an interesting amalgamation of atoms. With Charry, for Icebergs.

Iryna

Trying to capture the immeasurable weight of consciousness. Our unique ability to interpret, feel, and build a universe outside our own, that has no antidote. Somewhere along the way we forgot that we were never meant to carry this weight alone.
Part of Icebergs Project. Featuring Iryna.

Madalena

Editorial with Madalena Costa for the GQ cover.
Madalena is the first Portuguese citizen to win a gold medal in free figure skating, the first 14-year-old to become a world champion in figure skating, and the first athlete in any female category to perform a combination of three consecutive triple jumps in a competition. I was both amazed and inspired by Madalena’s dedication to her passion. I’ll gladly shoot with you anytime, Madalena.

Alicia

A relaxed summer editorial with Alicia Lewington at NEXT Hotel for Cosmopolitan Germany.
I’ve worked with few people who can get into character as quickly and convincingly as Alicia. You are built for greater heights.

Paulo

Atelier shots and portraits for architect Paulo David, a Portuguese architect and winner of the Alvar Aalto Medal in 2012.
The fact that we’ve known each other for some time allowed me to reflect on his philosophy of harmonizing structures with their surroundings. The result is a session that mirrors and explores the interplay between an architect and his atelier.

Entanglement

Editorial for L Concerts and Entanglement short film promotion, featuring dancers Rosa Rodrigues and Marco Olim.
Shot after a long day filming a video, these photographs almost didn’t happen. Rosa and Marco were exhausted and ready to give up on some of the challenging poses, but I asked them to try once more. In the end, we captured one of my favorite shots from this improvised session.

Mirror

Editorial for L Concerts and Mirror short-film promotion.
A series of vignettes exploring the concept of the observer effect in physics, using it as a metaphor for how we perceive the world.

Márcio

Session with Portuguese DJ and music producer Márcio Costa.
I’ve known Márcio for many years. He’s a friend and someone I’ve watched evolve both as a human being and a professional. However, his dedication to music alone would be reason enough for me to shoot with him.

Mariana

Portrait session with the talented Mariana do Carmo from Central Models, a faulty Pentax 67, and some Cinestill film.

Yao

This session unfolded under the premise of capturing what lingers after silence, and the result was a glimpse into clarity as the reflection cast by the shadow of solitude. Its also an ode to the quiet ones, as they are the ones that had time to think about things.
In the end, some of these moments became fragments of the series Icebergs, an ongoing dialogue about presence, absence, and the spaces in between.
Shot with Yao, under a shy winter sun.
